The Pavia Systems Management Team
George White has been involved in providing web-based solutions for clients in the pavement and construction industries for over 8 years. Since co-founding Pavia Systems, George has focused on the business development of the company and shares responsibility for Pavia’s day-to-day operations with Si Katara. He currently serves as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Prior to Pavia Systems, George worked as a research engineer in the Civil Engineering department at the University of Washington with Dr. Joe Mahoney and Dr. Steve Muench. While at the University, George was the lead architect and developer of several nationally recognized software applications used to deliver training and pavement management data over the web, one of which ultimately led to the formation of Pavia.
Prior to joining Pavia Systems, Si Katara was involved in architecting software solutions and managing engineering projects for Cisco Systems on the team that brought their first and second generation Storage Area Networking products to market. Si came to Cisco through the acquisition of a startup company, Andiamo Systems. He brings 10 years of professional software experience, technical expertise, and management know-how to the company. Si holds a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Washington with Distinction.
Dr. Joe Mahoney, a professor at the University of Washington, has been involved in the pavement industry for over 35 years. His extensive knowledge of the paving and construction fields and network of industry contacts are an invaluable resource for Pavia Systems. He has been recognized with five national awards for research including the K.B. Woods Award four times and the Emmons Award for his contributions to the industry. Other awards include the 2005 UW College of Engineering Outstanding Educator Award, and the Ronald D. Kenyan Research and Education Award from NAPA. Dr. Mahoney is responsible for co-authoring the large body of online pavement knowledge that is at the core of the Pavia Systems Online Learning Environment and has been a pioneer in bringing the benefits of technology based systems to the construction industry.
Dr. Steve Muench, an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, studies engineering learning, pavements, construction and sustainability . His expertise in self-directed learning and its specific use in paving and construction fields provide the basis for Pavia Systems' online learning endeavors. His Ph.D. work focused on self-directed learning and resulted in the development of several related multimedia training products. Along with Joe, Steve has won several national awards for his work in pavement training: the 2003 R1.edu Award for online learning, and the 2003 National Engineering Education Delivery System (NEEDS) Premier Courseware Award, and the Transportation Research Board's K.B. Woods Award in 2004.
